Marco Polo is the European Union's funding programme for projects which shift freight transport from the road to sea, rail and inland waterways. This means fewer trucks on the road and thus less congestion, less pollution, and more reliable and efficient transport of goods. // Marco Polo, yük taşımacılığının karayollarından deniz, demiryolu ve iç suyollarına kaydırılmasına yönelik projeler için finansman sağlayan bir Avrupa Birliği programı. Bu da, karayollarında daha az kamyon ve TIR görmemiz, dolayısıyla daha az trafik sıkışıklığı, daha az kirlilik ve daha güvenilir ve etkin bir taşımacılık anlamına geliyor.

Pilotage is one of the professions that would never end in the maritime industry, and has vital importance for the Turkish Straits, for approximately 155 vessels pass through the Istanbul Strait (the Bosphorus) everyday. 28 of these vessels are tankers and 6 are vessels with an overall length of over 200 meters. These vessels carry hundreds of thousands of hazardous materials through a canal with a very high population on both sides, where any potential risks may cause a disaster at anytime. Pilots provide friendly assistance to captains for a problem-free pass through the straits with their experience. // Kılavuz kaptanlık denizcilik sektöründe hiç bitmeyecek mesleklerden birisi ve Türk Boğazları için hayati öneme sahip. Çünkü İstanbul Boğazı'ndan günde 155 gemi geçiyor. Bunların 28 tanesi tanker ve 6 tanesi de 200 metrenin üzerinde boyuta sahip. Yüzbinlerce ton tehlikeli yükü yerleşimin yoğun olduğu ve potansiyel riskin her an gerçeğe dönüşebileceği bir kanaldan taşıyorlar. Kılavuz kaptanlar ise deneyimleri ile sorunsuz geçiş için kaptanlara dostluk ellerini uzatıyorlar.
